Welcome to the Cityplay Web Pages
A series of events throughout 2016 not only promise to be exciting and novel in their own right but will be building the foundations of a Community Play to be performed in the Spring of 2017 in celebration of the opening of the new Aldgate Square. We expect a cast of over a hundred community members will perform a promenade premier play by Stephen Lowe. An exciting aspect of the project is that we do not yet know what the play will be about, this is the year of discovery. City residents, workers will be working together with Director Jon Oram of Claque Theatre, playwright Stephen Lowe and others to 'find the play' through historical research, contemporary soundings and interviews, drama search workshops and expressing their stories through community made Exhibitions. All the creative events throughout this year are designed to inform the play.
This web site will keep you up do date with News and Upcoming Events. and also tell you How We Got Here you can also follow the progress of the project on the Director's Blog. This project is so much more than performing, there is something for everyone and it is all inclusive, everyone is welcome. We believe believe everyone has something to contribute. We invite you to join in and take part in all or any part of the project, to find out how, go to How to Help where you can see the range of activities you can take part in, the help we need and how you can Volunteer.
The best chance we have of telling the story of the community's story in a play is hearing as many of your voices as possible. 'Finding the Play' pages will tell you what others are saying and explain the different ways you tell your stories and share your ideas, on line or through recorded interviews, attending sounding and drama search events, expressing your life or store by making an Exhibition in a Suitcase.
